Colorado courts typically require that legal paternity be verified by an AABB accredited. Once legal paternity is established, the child has rights to receive financial support, inheritance, social security benefits, or obtain insurance through the biological father. If the biological parents of the child were not legally married at the time of birth, the child does not have a legal father until paternity is established and included on the child’s birth certificate.
